Note: the project has a duration of 6 months minimal, more months are preferred. The work will be mainly conducted at the facilities of Farmless at the Amsterdam Science Park.
At Farmless, we're offering an exciting internship opportunity where you help shape the future of food production. During this internship you will investigate the suitability of spray drying as final processing step in the production of microbial biomass for food applications. Furthermore, the functional properties of the spray dried material will be compared to those of wet and/or freeze-dried material and benchmarked to those of plant proteins or other microbial proteins. During this internship you will work closely and learn with our experienced team. Dive into the heart of sustainable protein innovation!
As an intern at Farmless, your core responsibilities include:
Literature study on processing conditions and scalability aspects of spray drying (of microbial biomass)
Experimental testing of spray drying conditions of Farmless’ biomass
Analysing the functional properties of the dried biomass for food application
Calculate the mass balance, energy efficiency and product recovery yield
Finding the optimal process conditions in respect to functional properties, recovery yield and process scalability
We're looking for candidates with:
Background in food technology and/or bioprocess technology
Hands on experience with spray drying
Experience with microbial biomass/fermentation is a plus
Experience with sustainability analysis is a plus
Team player skills with excellent English proficiency
This internship is specifically designed for those completing mandatory university internships
