Food Science & Analytical Chemistry Internship

  • Internship
  • Full-time
  • Amsterdam, NL
  • 1K EUR a month

Our mission is to decouple protein production from agricultural land and create an era of food abundance for humanity. We use natural fermentation and a renewable-energy-based feedstock to produce protein ingredients. While practically all fermentation methods up until now relied on sugars, which are derived from crops grown on agricultural land, we based our fermentation platform on a feedstock that can be made with just energy and simple molecules. This allows us to bypass the inefficiency of photosynthesis and break free of its limiting constraints.

The Role

Farmless is creating sustainable postbiotic proteins from scratch. To ensure their success, we need an Analytical Chemist / Food Scientist to help us map them at the molecular level. Instead of just executing standard protocols, you will help build them. You’ll develop and optimize the analytical methods used to measure product quality, providing the critical data our fermentation and harvest teams need to scale our technology.

Responsibilities

  • Use your analytical toolkit to profile the composition, purity, and functional properties of our postbiotic proteins.

  • Support downstream operations in optimizing our processes and during production runs.

  • Research and validate new analytical methods to solve unique challenges within our fermentation and harvest processes.

  • Monitor and document the quality of our production runs to ensure every batch meets our high standards for safety and performance.

  • Maintain and calibrate analytical equipment while ensuring a rigorous, high-standard laboratory environment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's in Analytical Chemistry, Food Technology, or a related field

  • Experience running an HPLC, performing colorimetric assays, and/or microbiological analysis.

  • Having exceptional organizational skills with a high commitment to precision and data integrity.

  • Team player with excellent English proficiency.

  • Internship duration of 6-7 months.

What you can expect from Farmless

  • €1000 gross internship compensation

  • Pushing forward the frontiers of food production

  • Free healthy vegan lunches, snacks, and drinks

  • Work in a diverse, international, and dynamic team

About us

We’re a deeply technical, highly ambitious team with backgrounds spanning fermentation, food, bioprocess, engineering, and scale-up. Team members previously worked at companies including The Vegetarian Butcher, Perfect Day, Nature’s Fynd, Lanzatech and many more.

We’re intentionally flat, interdisciplinary, and execution-focused. People here have autonomy, speed, and ambition. You’ll have the freedom to build, and the responsibility to do it well.

We’re based within the city ring of Amsterdam – for a reason. We want to attract the best people from around the world and believe that Amsterdam is a great place to settle – and bike to work. On top of that, the Netherlands is one of the most productive agricultural regions in the world. The Dutch have a mindset to push the boundaries of food production and have the practical expertise to scale up our fermentation platform.

We’ve raised +€12M from world-class investors including World Fund, Vorwerk Ventures, Revent, and Nucleus Capital, and European and national grants.
